Dr. Brenda Barrio serves as the Associate Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies providing strategic leadership for graduate education, student research development, and institutional research initiatives that enhance student success and research capacity.

Responsibilities include co-leading the Toulouse Graduate School and graduate education at UNT, directing university-wide student research development programs, and advancing institutional grant initiatives that expand research and training opportunities for students. She also oversees institutional student grant programs such as the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) and the Texas Leadership Research Scholars program (TLRS).

Dr. Barrio supports the following departments within DRI: Toulouse Graduate School, Student Research Development, and Communications.

By strengthening research engagement, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, and supporting initiatives that advance research innovation, Dr. Barrio continuously contributes to UNT's research excellence, student achievement, and long-term strategic growth.
