Department of Energy COI Policy

Effective August 17, 2026, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has amended its interim conflict of interest (COI) policy. This new policy establishes COI requirements for any institutions applying for or receiving financial assistance from the DOE.
Per the updated policy, investigators must disclose any conflicts of interest at the time of their proposal, annually, and within 15 days of acquiring a new significant financial interest. Investigators must complete COI training prior to participating in DOE-funded projects and at least once every two years thereafter.

UNT's current training requirements sufficiently fulfill the DOE's training requirements. No additional training besides what is already required is needed at this time.

Additional information can be found in the Financial Assistance Regulations-Conflict of Interest and Conflict of Commitment Policy Requirements Rule published by the U.S. Department of Energy on 7/16/2026."
